# Free Trial

You can start a customer’s subscription with a free trial period.

When creating a subscription with a trial period, customers don’t need to pay immediately. 

When the trial ends, if the subscription `status` isn’t `paused`, a subscription transaction was paid by the customer. A new billing period also begins for the customer when the trial ends.
